Tossup
At the beginning of this film, a voice-over narrates a woman’s thoughts about her obnoxious friend, including a hastily retracted wish that they were dead. In this film, the camera slowly tilts to the side while fixed on the protagonist’s face, before a series of dutch angle shots capture her running outside and almost committing suicide. While gazing out a window in this film, a woman’s face is barely visible as images of her and a man dancing and going on vacation are overlaid onto the frame. Eileen Joyce’s performance of (*) Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 is a recurring theme throughout this film, such as in a scene where the two leads walk to a train station for the last time before one of them departs for Johannesburg. For 10 points, Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson play a doctor and a housewife who embark on an unconsummated affair in what 1945 romantic tragedy by David Lean? ■END■
