After witnessing her friend get hit in the face by a book, a woman in this film asks “what are you doing to Dostoyevsky?” A traditional children’s story inspired this film’s scene in which a woman compares herself to a “blue devil” who helped a “red devil” befriend villagers. On Shakina Nayfack’s recommendation, Kate Bornstein played that woman in this film’s English dub. This film does not use subtitles for the Spanish dialogue of a dark-skinned couple whom the protagonists meet after witnessing an attempted hit on a portly gangster. At the climax of this loose remake of a film by (*) John Ford, dawn breaks just as a woman floats to the ground, after a gust of wind prevents her from plunging off the side of a hospital. In this film, the trans woman Hana seizes her (10[1])opportunity to be an adopted mother to Kiyoko, whom she and her two friends discover in an alley on Christmas Eve.
